Report from Galactic Commonwealth Conference on Sentient Rights

After many years of lobbying, Earth was finally chosen to host this
prestigious conference. Common ground was found on most measures, but a
proposal to ban the eating of spouses only narrowly achieved the necessary
two thirds majority. The head of the Mantisoid delegation from the
Elephant’s Trunk nebula described the idea as “Political correctness
gone mad”.
Since Phorovians each measure about one light year, problems arose when a
delegate  blocked the sun, triggering a new ice age.
Should sentient life re-establish itself, Earth has been shortlisted for
galactic planet of culture.
